Eleanor Tinsley Park located in Buffalo Bayou is a favorite spot for Houstonians. Enjoy a concert on the lawn at the Bud Light Amphitheater or play a game of volleyball at the sand courts. This park serves as the site for many festivals and events, including the annual July 4th fireworks display downtown.
Discovery Green is a truly unique 12-acre urban park. Nature and art become one in this space through the inclusion of performance spaces and public art. There are plenty of activities including kayaking on Kinder Lake, shuffleboard courts, and bocce ball. It also offers a perfect spot for a relaxing walk or meal as a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Hermann Park is home to many of the cultural institutions of the city. This 445 acre park offers all of the common amenities of urban parks while also housing the Houston Zoo and Miller Outdoor Theatre. This outdoor venue hosts free performances for eight months out of the year.

There is something for everyone to enjoy downtown Houston. Whether you are an avid sports fan or love the arts, Houstonians never run out of things to do. Four professional sports teams call the city home. Cheer on the Houston Texans as they run for a touchdown at NRG Stadium. Head over to Minute Maid Park to watch America’s favorite pastime played by the Astros. Watch the Houston Rockets take on their competition on the court at the Toyato Center. Houston is also the site of a major league soccer team, the Dynamos, who play at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Houston is also a place bursting with creativity and an appreciation for the arts. The Museum District is the major cultural center for the city. Located just southwest of downtown, this area hosts 19 different museums! Admire works of art at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Contemporary Arts Museum. Bring the family over to the nationally recognized Children's Museum of Houston for a day of fun and educational activities. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is the most popular museum in Texas. With an amazing rotation of traveling exhibits as well as the permanent features, this museum offers a new experience with every visit.
You do not need to travel to New York City to see a Broadway show. Houston has its own thriving theater district! It is the site for nine performing arts organizations. The Hobby Center features traveling Broadway shows. Beyond this, there are many other theatrical and musical perfomances occuring throughout the district. The Wortham Center is home to the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet while the Jones Hall for the Performing Arts houses the Houston Symphony. These venues also have an amazing schedule of events from other organizations and troupes. The Houston Independent School District is dedicated to educating the youth of the city. With 153 elementary schools, 37 middle schools, and 40 high schools, HISD is the largest school district in Texas. These educational institutions strive for academic excellence and preparing their students for the future.
Houston is also the home to several excellent higher educational institutions that add to the innovative and vibrant spirit of the city. Located in southeast Houston, the University of Houston is the third largest university in the state of Texas. Ranked by US News and World Report as the 18th best university in the country, Rice University is recognized for its groundbreaking research in many fields, particularly science and engineering.

Residents in Houston have access to the Texas Medical Center located at 2450 Holcombe Boulevard. The Texas Medical Center is the world’s largest medical center. Transportation in the Houston, TX Area

There are several public transportation options for residents and visitors including the Greenlink bus line, the METRORail system, and Houston B-cycle, a bike sharing program. Houston also has a unique 6-mile long tunnel and skywalk system between downtown buildings for added convenience for pedestrians.
If you are traveling outside of Houston, the city is home to two major airports. The George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is located just 23 miles north of downtown and offers domestic and international flights. The William P. Hobby Airport is conveniently located 7 miles southeast of downtown. Offering only domestic flights, this airport is perfect for business travelers.
Neighborhoods of Downtown Houston Texas

Located between downtown and uptown, River Oaks is one of the premiere neighborhoods in the city.
